UFC Houston just wrapped up, and among the many fighters who competed tonight, a select few delivered unforgettable performances and walked away with extra cash.
Most of these standout fighters came from the main card, while one prelim combatant also earned a bonus for producing the only finish on the prelims.
UFC Houston: Performance of the Night Bonuses
1: Sean Strickland ($100,000)
In the main event, Sean Strickland locked horns with Anthony Hernandez and secured a Round 3 TKO victory to return to winning ways. The former champion controlled the fight from start to finish with his signature jab until he found the final kill in the third stanza. For his TKO victory over “Fluffy,” Strickland earned a $100,000 Performance of the Night Bonus.
Other than Sean Strickland, 3 other fighters took home an extra $100,000 for their performances.
2) Uros Medic ($100,000)
Welterweight Uros Medic, who knocked out Geoff Neal with a sharp left hand to the temple in the opening minutes of Round 1, also took home an extra $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus.
3) Melquizael Costa ($100,000)
Before the Uros Medic knockout win, 145-pounder Melquizael Costa took home $100,000 after delivering a highlight reel finish against Dan Ige.
The Brazilian fighter dropped Ige with a perfectly timed back kick to the temple in the final seconds of Round 1 that sent Ige crashing to the canvas. Costa then went for the final kill and finished Ige with a ground and pound before the final bell of Round 1.
4) Jacobe Smith ($100,000)
The fourth fighter and the final fighter to win a $100,000 Fight of the Night bonus at Houston was welterweight Jacobe Smith, who earned his first bonus after sending Josiah Harrell to the shadow realm with heavy ground and pound in Round 1.
Joselyne Edwards ( $25,000)
Other than the four aforementioned $10,000 Fight of the Night bonuses, Joselyne Edwards, who submitted Nora Cornolle in Round 2 of their bantamweight clash, produced the only finish on the prelims and took home a $25,000 finish bonus.
