Islam Makhachev has responded to Ilia Topuria’s latest X post in which the latter alleged that Makhachev ducked him once more, this time with a new excuse.
Earlier today, the UFC lightweight champion posted on X, claiming that when the UFC reached out to him about potentially fighting Islam Makhachev at the White House, he was ready to sign the agreement and was looking forward to dethroning the welterweight champion.
However, he was soon informed that Makhachev had gotten injured. Therefore, he will now have to lock horns with current and two-time interim champion Justin Gaethje on June 14 to unify the titles.
“El Matador” has had Makhachev in his crosshairs even before he moved up to lightweight and captured the throne at UFC 317. This time, Topuria went all in on the Dagestani wrestling maestro, after a potential superfight with Makhachev, which could have headlined UFC Freedom 250, did not come to fruition, for which the Georgian-Spaniard solely blames the pound-for-pound king. He quipped:
Once again Islam comes up with an excuse. This time it’s an injury. I always knew I would be part of the White House event. Even when the UFC told me at one point that they wouldn’t count on me for the event, I knew it was part of the negotiation. When they finally told me I would be on the White House card, they mentioned Islam and I didn’t hesitate for a second to accept the fight. Even though the fight hadn’t been officially confirmed yet, the White House card was going to be announced the next day. And when I woke, I found out that Islam had gotten injured. And then Justin Gaethje appeared.
He also took a dig at Makhachev and Gaethje’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, while sending a chilling warning to “The Highlight.”
Once again, someone else who will pay for Islam’s escape. Both of their manager is a bi*ch and also ugly as hell. Justin, see you at the White House. I’m not someone who humiliates people. It will be quick. When you wake up, everything will already be over.”

Islam Makhachev responds to Ilia Topuria: “We both know who chickened out”
Islam Makhachev was quick to reply to “El Matador’s” ducking allegations. The 34-year-old claimed that Topuria and his manager, Malki Kawa, asked for billions to fight him, suggesting that was the REAL reason the superfight did not materialize.
In the same post, he added that one day he and “El Matador” will fight for free, and till then the Georgian-Spaniard can ‘cover his cowardice with nasty tweets.’
We both know who chickened out here 😉 you can cover your cowardice with nasty tweets, but don’t worry, one day you will get what you asked for! And your fat a*s manager doesn’t have to ask for billions to fight me, we’ll do it for free.”
