Charles Oliveira believes fighters unhappy with his dominant performance at UFC 326 are “jealous” of his well-rounded skill set.

Oliveira dethroned Max Holloway earlier this month in a rematch at UFC 326 to become the new BMF champion. The Brazilian had a control time of more than 20 minutes, scored 5 takedowns, and landed 110 total strikes en route to a super-comfortable unanimous decision win.

However, several fighters have strongly criticized the Brazilian fighter for choosing a wrestling-heavy approach in a BMF title fight instead of giving fans a slugfest.

Charles Oliveira responds to everyone unhappy with how he dethroned Max Holloway at UFC 326

Not happy with all the hate he has been receiving after UFC 326, Charles Oliveira finally decided to respond to the criticism. During a sit-down with Olhar da Luta, he said:

I fought a guy [Max Holloway] that nobody had dominated before. Nobody had been able to take him down and keep him there. Every time someone took him down, he got back up and did his thing. And then I came to a fight with no disrespect [to Holloway], but I made it look easy. I took the guy out for nothing. The best hands, the best kicks, the best standing game. I was the one who did it all. I was the one who put my hands on it. On the ground, I was flawless.”

The 36-year-old lauded Holloway for defending well and not giving the submission artist the chance to force a tap.

He did well defending. He’s tough, but my ground game was perfect. There wasn’t a single moment where things got bad for me.”

Charles Oliveira then reminded everyone that in the final seconds, it was he who invited the ‘best boxer in the UFC’ to trade in the center of the octagon:

I was the one who called him to the center. And I started landing my shots. The only punch he landed hit my shoulder, and that’s what threw me off balance at the end. And I still get criticized that I didn’t trade, and I only grappled, and it was a bad fight.”

Several fighters, including Mauricio Ruffy, Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, and even UFC CEO Dana White, among many others, have criticized Oliveira for putting on a snooze fest in a BMF title bout that should have been a pure brawl.

For them, “Do Bronxs” had a message during the same interview:

Honestly, for fighters, real professionals, to say that it was a bad fight, I think that’s jealousy. Because dominating a guy like Max Holloway for five rounds, I don’t even think those rounds should have been 10-9. They should have been 10-8, all of them, because of the level of control and dominance.”

“Do Bronxs,” then quipped that the next time he fights, he plans to ask his critics how they want to see him fight, and he will go and fight as suggested to please the masses, since a dominant performance and a win clearly aren’t enough to win hearts.

I think next time I’ll ask, “What’s the plan? What do you want me to do? Muay Thai? Judo? Kung Fu? Surfing? What is it for me to do?”
