Ilia Topuria has reached a settlement with his ex-wife Giorgina Uzcategui, ending a high-profile legal dispute that has kept the UFC lightweight champion out of competition and under public scrutiny for months.

Ilia Topuria Reaches Settlement With Ex-Wife, Cleared to Refocus on UFC Return

Spanish outlet Marca first reported that Topuria and Uzcategui signed a settlement agreement that led to the withdrawal of her lawsuit and the dismissal of the case in court. Multiple MMA news and social media reports state that the final deal mirrors terms Topuria had previously put on the table, indicating there was no dramatic late change in financial or custody demands. A combat sports update shared that the dispute “has now been dropped,” confirming that there are no active legal proceedings between the two as of this week.

Background to the dispute

The settlement comes after a turbulent stretch that began in late 2025, when Uzcategui filed legal action in Spain and Topuria publicly claimed he was facing “false allegations of domestic abuse” tied to financial demands. In December 2025, he announced he would step away from fighting in early 2026, citing a “difficult moment” in his personal life and ongoing legal issues around the breakup.

Reporting from Spanish and international outlets described claims of domestic violence, online threats, and a contentious divorce and custody process, while Uzcategui’s legal team framed the matter as a private legal dispute involving a minor and urged media to avoid speculation.

Coverage of the court process earlier this year highlighted that Uzcategui sought permission to relocate with their child to Miami, a move Topuria opposed, and that recent hearings opened the door for him to see his daughter again after a long separation. In reaction to one of those hearings, Topuria was quoted leaving court saying that he was happy because he would soon see his daughter and that his family remained his priority.

The new settlement effectively closes the chapter of public filings and gives both sides a framework for future contact and parenting arrangements, though specific custody terms have not been disclosed.

Impact on his UFC career

With the case resolved, Topuria has already returned to structured training, posting an Instagram photo from his gym with the caption “The Champ is back!!!” and confirming that he has been back in camp for several weeks. Reports indicate he is targeting a comeback between April and June 2026, lining up with earlier fan interactions where he mentioned that window for his return.

The undefeated lightweight champion is now expected to face interim titleholder Justin Gaethje in his next bout, a matchup that would unify the belts after Gaethje’s recent win to claim interim gold at UFC 324.

For Topuria, the agreement with his ex-wife removes the legal uncertainty that had overtaken the narrative of his title reign and allows him to shift focus back to competition. For Uzcategui, the settlement closes a case that drew significant attention in Spain and across MMA media, without a prolonged public trial over the allegations on either side.
