Loopy Godinez has revealed the one main reason why she has to get past former UFC title challenger Tatiana Suarez next. Godinez and Suarez will lock horns in April at UFC 327.

In 2024, Godinez had a rough year. She lost two bouts back-to-back. However, in 2025, she turned the tide in her favor by returning to winning ways against Julia Polastri in March, and in August at UFC 319, she secured another win against Jessica Andrade.

The 32-year-old currently sits at No. 6 in the UFC women’s strawweight rankings, and a win over former title challenger Tatiana Suarez at UFC 327 could help her earn a shot at the undisputed title.

Godinez’s future opponent, Suarez, is the No. 2-ranked strawweight, who lost her title fight against Zhang Weili at UFC 312. That setback also marked the first defeat of her MMA career. However, later that year, she returned to the win column with a unanimous decision victory over Amanda Lemos.

After Godinez’s UFC 327 bout vs. Suarez was announced, she appeared in an interview with MMA Junkie and doubled down on why this bout is the most important fight of her life to date:

I think this is a huge opportunity for me. This is a very important fight for me, and this is the fight I have to win to get to my goal, you know, which is fight for the title, be a champion, and we go from there.”

In the same interview, Loopy Godinez also added that she believes former two-time UFC women’s strawweight champion Zhang Weili will eventually return to strawweight to reclaim the title.

‘Magnum’ successfully defended her 115-pound title three times in her second reign and then vacated it in 2025 to move up and challenge flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 322. However, her pursuit of two-division glory was unsuccessful, as she suffered a unanimous decision loss against ‘Bullet.’

During the same MMA junkie sitdown, when Loopy Godinez was asked if she wants to face Zhang Weili down the line, she added:

I don’t scratch out Weili. I really think there’s a big chance that she will be back, and if she does, I would love to fight her. She’s a great fighter. She’s been on top for a long time, and definitely I would like to test myself with her. But if she doesn’t, then whoever is the champion. Of course, I want to fight for the belt.”
