Controversial MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz isn’t sure if we’ll ever see Conor McGregor step inside the Octagon again.

It’s been nearly five years since ‘The Notorious’ suffered a horrific leg break during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. In the time since, McGregor has faced a slew of personal and legal setbacks, but he’s always remained adamant that his “greatest comeback in combat sports history” was on the horizon.

We nearly got that moment in June 2024 before McGregor pulled out of a scheduled scrap with Michael Chandler due to a broken pinky toe. Now, all signs point toward the Irishman’s return this summer when the UFC delivers a history-making night of fights at the White House.

Recently, rumors started swirling that ‘Mystic Mac’ could be matched up with former BMF titleholder Jorge Masvidal at the history-making Fight Night — a matchup that ‘Gamebred’ is more than ready to accept.

However, Abdelaziz — Masvidal’s manager — isn’t so sure the UFC wants to jump back into business with McGregor.

“Jorge would like to fight McGregor,” Abdelaziz told Submission Radio. “Six years ago, there was a lot of talk about it, but we don’t even know if Conor comes back. He said he doesn’t have a contract, he needs a new contract, and I think the UFC is a different place now. I don’t think he has the same amount of leverage he had before. He’s not even going to be the main event, and I don’t know if he will even fight again.

“Sometimes as managers or fighters, you play your hand too far. He’s delusional sometimes, but he’s also a big draw. I don’t know if they’re going to pay him or not pay him, but the Masvidal fight is always there. Jorge is open to it. I can’t confirm or deny anything, but as far as I know, Jorge would say yes.”

Conor McGregor Wants New Contract Ahead of UFC Comeback

McGregor has remained insistent that he will compete at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on June 14, assuming he and the UFC can negotiate a new contract.

Previously, McGregor claimed that he had two fights left on his contract, but with the UFC’s move to Paramount+ and the subsequent sunset of the promotion’s pay-per-view model, the former champ-champ is already eyeing a new contract.

Whether or not he gets it remains to be seen.
