Carlos Prates claims his name was offered to Conor McGregor, but the Irishman declined the fight.
Prates, the No. 5-ranked welterweight contender, is now booked to fight former champion Jack Della Maddalena at UFC Perth on May 2.
Last month, there were rumors that McGregor would make his much-anticipated return on the White House card and could be taking on “The Nightmare.”
The Irishman wrote on X that he’s been offered a “no-name” opponent. He had also posted a picture of the welterweight rankings and claimed he’d been offered a date and opponent for his next bout, which he’d accepted and is now waiting for a fresh contract.
Carlos Prates takes a sly dig at Conor McGregor: “He chickened out and ran away”
Carlos Prates was recently interviewed by Laerte Viana, during which he claimed Conor McGregor turned down a fight with him, after which the Brazilian was booked to face “JDM.”
Nothing came to me from the UFC. I believe they did offer my name to McGregor, though… He chickened out and ran away… Because I’m a tough matchup, man. The guy’s been inactive for 5 years, and it’s not even in his weight class. I’m coming in with all the hype, knocking everyone out.”
Prates added that McGregor perhaps wants to fight a former champion when he finally returns to the octagon.
If I were in his position, I wouldn’t accept that fight either, no way. I think he probably wants to fight, maybe a former champion.”

The former UFC double champion has not commented on the same, but yesterday he confirmed that he’s in negotiations with the UFC and would either fight at the White House on June 14 or in July on the International Fight Week card. He told Drink Litt:
I am in negotiations with the UFC about the bout, either the White House or thereabouts. Sometime in the summer, McGregor will return.”

Earlier today, BMF champion Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira, who will lock horns this weekend in the main event of UFC 326, also showed interest in fighting “The Notorious.”
