Conor McGregor still wants Michael Chandler as his opponent when he makes his UFC return.
The former UFC double champion has been making headlines with numerous posts on X, which strongly indicate that he’s itching to step foot in the octagon.
McGregor has claimed that he’s said yes to a date and an opponent for his return bout, and he’s waiting for the contract. Earlier today, he once again said he’s ready to fight and urged the UFC to send him “the contract.”

Meanwhile, on Instagram, when a fan suggested they want to see Conor McGregor face Michael Chandler and no one else, “The Notorious” replied, seconding the idea.
It should be that yes.”

Dana White does not want Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler to happen in 2026
Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler served as opposing coaches on TUF 31 in 2023, and in 2024, they were booked to headline UFC 303. However, the fight was cancelled due to McGregor’s toe injury.
In 2025, after the Dubiner showed interest in the White House Card, “Iron” and the former verbally confirmed they would be locking horns on June 14 at the South Lawn.
However, soon UFC CEO Dana White dashed the idea, stating that he’s no longer interested in making this fight happen in 2026. But there was good news for McGregor fans, as White said that “The Notorious” is in contention for a spot on the White House card.
This past weekend, McGregor posted a picture of the welterweight rankings and, in another post, claimed that his comeback opponent would be a “noname” fighter.

And now rumors are circulating that McGregor could take on Carlos Prates.
Although “The Notorious” claims that he’s been offered a fight and he’s accepted it, Dana White says otherwise. At the UFC Houston post-fight presser, White said this about McGregor’s return:
If it were done and he had accepted, I would announce it.”
